Please join us in welcoming Leila Assadi, our new Communications Fellow!
Leila Assadi is a first-year student at the University of Iowa from Bettendorf, Iowa. She is pursuing a major in Political Science and Economics with minors in Public Policy and International Relations.
Leila first learned about the position through Communications Coordinator Abby Fowler due to her interest in learning about the intersections of Iowa and the global community. In this role, she will be learning about all communications operations, eventually taking over as Communications Coordinator after Abby graduates this spring.
“I think a lot of people think that there isn’t a lot to do in Iowa and not a lot of diversity, but there is a ton of people coming in from all over the world… I thought that it was really interesting and unique and something I have not heard in the state of Iowa,” Leila Assadi said.
At the University of Iowa, Leila is a Senator at the University of Iowa’s Undergraduate Student Government and a member of the Middle Eastern North African Student Association. Additionally, alongside her friend, Leila has just laid the foundations for her new student organization Ethics Bowl! Inspired by her high school Ethic Bowl club, she hopes to create a team at the University of Iowa and train members on how to compete in competitions.
In her free time, Leila enjoys attending music concerts. In the last year, she has attended eight concerts, including Lollapalooza, BTS, and Harry Styles. She hopes to see Niall Horan this summer.
“I hope to bring a positive face while working hard… I am hoping that with my past experience, I will be able to bring new ideas and things I learned in the past and incorporate them into Global Ties Iowa,” Leila said.
We are excited to have Leila on the team as our new Communications Fellow!
