Please join us in welcoming Cadence Barker, our Social Media and Storytelling Intern!
Cadence is a student attending Sciences Po in Reims, France. She is majoring in Politics and Government with a minor in International Relations. Candence was born in the United States, but has since lived and studied in Thailand, Japan, Germany, and France.
As the Social Media and Storytelling Intern, Cadence will be implementing our social media strategy, drafting blog posts for the website, and working closely with our Communications Coordinator Leila Assadi in proofreading newsletters, emails, and blog posts. At the end of the summer, Cadence will be going to London to spend an exchange year at King’s College London under the War Studies program!
At Science Po, Cadence is involved in Bureau des Élèves, the student life board that organizes events on campus, as the Head of Communications. She is also involved in the spirit and foreign policy associations. Outside of school, Cadence is into art, especially acrylic paint, watercolors, and graphic design. Most recently, she took part in the organization of an art exhibition for student artists. In her free time, Cadence likes to cook, read, and travel, especially because it is relatively simple to travel around from France.
Cadence heard about this position when she interned for Summer of the Arts last year. One of our former staff members, Ondrea Li, was at one of the Summer of the Arts conferences and introduced Cadence to Global Ties Iowa. After talking with our Executive Director, Amy Alice Chastain, about internship opportunities, Cadence was encouraged to apply for an internship this summer!
During her time at Global Ties Iowa, Cadence hopes to bring her international knowledge and experience to our organization. “My experience living abroad has made it much easier to make connections with people from other cultures,” she says.
We are excited to have Cadence on the team as our new Social Media and Storytelling Intern!
