Calling all high school and college students in Iowa: You’re invited to join us for a free leadership training session! This summer, we are hosting Dr. Mylon Jamar Kirksy for sessions that will help improve the competency and skills in communications, judgment, self-awareness, and critical thinking of aspiring leaders. These fun and highly interactive sessions will give you insights into your own intercultural mindset, judgments, and biases with the goal of helping you learn to be more self-aware, reduce bias and develop your ability to interpret and evaluate media and messages.
These 60-minute sessions will be presented virtually using Zoom. Participants can choose between sessions on July 15th and August 15th from Noon-1PM CST. The content of both sessions will be the same, so it is only necessary to attend one. Registration is required to attend. Please register using the links below:
Dr. Kirksy is an entrepreneur, senior director of Residence Life for the University of Texas at Austin, and assistant professor of practice in the College of Education and in the College of Liberal Arts. His areas of expertise are in organizational leadership, development and change management; student and staff learning and development; research, assessment, and evaluation; communications; and intercultural competency development. Dr. Kirksy is a certified behavioral-based interviewer, a graduate of the Institute for Facilities Management and a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) that assesses individuals’ intercultural competency. His professional affiliations are with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA); the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I); and the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA). Currently, Dr. Kirksy serves as the Regional Director for NASPA Region III.
